Lauren Westervelt, tattoo artist at Brooklyn-based studio Fleur Noir, said that, first and foremost, it's most important to get the design you want rather than adhere to a trend. "In the industry as it is today, there are artists specializing in any and every style you could imagine," she told POPSUGAR. "It is easier than ever for clients to find the exact style and artist they resonate with thanks to social media platforms."
